ConQuest Scents: A Great Product and Greater Friends!

It’s tough to pinpoint when exactly we came to know Doug and Karen Roberts of ConQuest Scents. I’ve been told that we met Doug decades ago, when Shane and I were knee-high to a mid-sized mosquito. We were pretty young then though, so we don’t really have any recollection of that meeting. We do, however, remember how common their names were around our home as we grew up. Doug and Karen, with their incredible herd of enormous and ‘pretty’ whitetails, played a huge part in our initial foray into the deer farming industry way back, so our parents came to know them very well. All this was long before there was ever a ConQuest Scents company though. Back then, they were simply great deer farmers and even better friends.
Fast forward a couple decades to more recent history.
About the time that we were contacted about filming for Sons of Winter, Doug and Karen called us to tell us their own exciting news—that they had just begun filming for a show of their own, ConQuest 200, which would follow them around every day life on the deer farm, documenting their quest to breed a 200” typical. Since we were all beginning our adventures into the world of reality television, this allowed us to share the excitement and frustration of filming our respective shows.
Over the years, we have continued to grow closer as friends, and Shane and I both have immense respect and admiration for Doug and Karen. As a related rabbit-trail, when we turned 13, Dad took each of us on a week-long survival canoe trip. We learned a lot on that trip, both about survival (physical and spiritual), and life in general. But one of the most important things Dad had us do during that trip was to choose 13 wise, godly men as mentors for when we need guidance throughout life. Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find 13 such men nowadays. Of the 13 we each identified, I doubt any know they were chosen for such a role by us. I don’t know who all of Shane’s 13 were, but I do know that we each share one in common with each other: Doug Roberts. Simply put, Doug knows his stuff. Not just about deer farming and deer hunting, but about the important things, like living life for God and the importance of maintaining that devotion every day.
*We should note here that we are not endorsed by ConQuest Scents—we aren’t saying all this because they asked us to. We’re saying this because they are a family of integrity, with a business vision and product that we believe in, and we have incredible respect and admiration for them.*
Back to the business side of things. ConQuest Scents works. We used to produce a similar urine product from our own deer farm (albeit not nearly as impressively high-tech as ConQuest’s wax-sticks). Ours worked incredibly well too, so we know what the key ingredient is in an effective scent: real deer urine. Specifically, if you’re looking for an effective rutting lure especially, real doe-in-heat scent. Our own doe-in-heat scent was collected directly from does that were in breeding mode, and we can vouch for ConQuest when we say that their VS1 scent is also genuine doe-in-heat scent.
Conversely, while we were producing our own scent, we were approached by one of the “big-time players” (for the sake of not being sued, we won’t mention any names, but you can be assured that you’ve seen this ‘big player’ in basically every hunting store you’ve been in). They wanted to buy deer urine from us by the 45-gallon barrel. When we told them that there was no way our little operation could produce that much high-quality doe-in-heat urine (since there is an extremely limited window of opportunity to collect while a doe is in heat), they informed us that it really didn’t matter—they only need regular deer urine for their doe-in-heat scent. The reality of it being from a doe that is actually in heat really didn’t enter into the formula, as long as it was from a real deer.
Anyway, that’s all to say that we can vouch for ConQuest Scents. We’ve seen their operation. We’ve seen the does that they collect from, and you can rest assured that you are receiving nothing but the highest quality scents from them. If the package says it is doe-in-heat, it is actually genuine doe-in-heat scent.
We’ve shot a lot of big bucks over genuine doe-in-heat scent. Combined with rattling and calling, the right scent can make for an absolutely deadly combination. We’ve had bucks charge in 5 yards from us, spook when they see us, run away, then return to the exact same spot 5 yards away, simply because the scent of that doe in heat is far too alluring to resist. We’ve harvested bucks well over 170” that, without the scent, refused to let themselves be seen. As soon as the scent was used, they came charging straight in.
We’ll admit, the doe-in-heat scent is fairly expensive. But then again, quality always is. If we’re just hunting for a meat buck for the winter, we will often stick to rattling and calling, and maybe use Conquest’s very affordable EverCalm scent (still made from real deer, but not doe-in-heat). But when we’re after that elusive monster, that 180” double-droptine buck that disappeared into the forest on day one of hunting season, we use ConQuest’s VS1.
Give it a try. If you’re using ConQuest Scents, rest assured that you’re using an incredible product. And as a bonus, you’re supporting an even more incredible family.
And if you use it and harvest a trophy, share a picture in the comments! We’d love to share in your own success stories!
